A letter from the candidate
My name is Melissa Ramoso and I am running for Artesia City Council this November 5, 2013.
I’m excited about the potential, possibilities and promise of Artesia. Ours is truly a majestic city; poised for its brightest days ahead. As we emerge from this Great Recession, our diverse community needs new energy, ideas and vigor. That’s why I’m running for city council.
I’m up to the challenge. I’m an active Artesia resident and Vice President of the Friends of Artesia Foundation which brought back the Fourth of July fireworks this year. Born locally in Downey, I am a product of the ABC Unified School District as a Gahr High School graduate and Distinguished Gladiator Award recipient. I received my B.A. in Political Science with studies in Criminology, Law & Society at University of California, Irvine.
My passion for service comes from my parents. They immigrated to America, helped others in government jobs, and my father served in our nation’s military. I want to follow that tradition by giving back to our community. Over the past decade, I served and advised federal and state legislators. Currently, I’m Deputy District Director to State Senator Ted Lieu, advising on healthcare, military, education and older adult issues.
I intend to use my experience from various levels of government in order to “hit the ground running” at City Hall. I will bring my perspective as a public servant and community leader towards protecting our unique quality of life in Artesia.
As a City Council candidate, my top priorities are:
Improving and protecting the quality of life for all our neighborhoods;
Strengthening our local economy; and
Making City Hall more responsive to the people.
As I embark upon this exciting journey, I look forward to meeting with you and hearing your ideas about how we can work together to keep Artesia moving forward.
Please feel free to call me at (562) 353-7075 or email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you and I respectfully ask for your vote on November 5th.
